Fly Fishing is a higly
specialized activity requiring very specific products. These products
can be purchased today from catalogers, brand specific stores, department
stores, sporting goods stores, fishing shops and fly fishing "Pro
Shops". As a result, the consumer has many choices in regard
to where they spend their hard-earned money. However, there are
many reasons why shopping at a "Pro Shop" is still your
best bet.
- The majority
of fly fishing "Pro Shops" are owner vs. employee
operated. As such, most often the person you deal with has a
vested interest in your satisfaction (they count on your repeat
business to keep things going!)
- Owners and operators
of fly fishing "Pro Shops" are in most cases passionate,
knowledgeable, and experienced in regard to fly fishing (That's
why they got into the business!).
- Most major manufacturers
in the Fly Fishing industry operate under an MSRP (Manufacturers
Suggested Retail Price) policy. As such, the price of a given
product is the same regardless of where you buy it!
- It is unrealistic
to expect that any one company can do everything well (that's
why I have a Toyota Truck, BF Goodrich tires, Yakima racks,
Warn winche, and an AlpineCD Player!)
- Fly Fishing
products are very personal and as such should be "Field
Tested" before being purchased - Not always an option when
using other distribution channels!
