The
"DeLorme" series of maps and related products are an invaluable
source of information for those interested in enjoying the wonderful
state of Maine! The old standard "Maine Gazetteer" is
a must and a copy can be found in most vehicles traveling in the
north Maine woods.
Additionally,
the "Pond Depth Maps" are the absolute best source for
information in regard to the size, depth and fish species of the
numerous lakes and ponds dotting the Maine landscape. Lastly, the
"Region Specific" folding maps are great for hike-in and
canoe trips!
Note
that the recently introduced "Kennebec River Guide" put
out by the non-profit group Kennebec Valley Trails out of Skowhegan
is a comprehensive "Recreational" guide to the Kennebec
River from it's source to the ocean!
Note:
Unfortunately, DeLorme has informed their distributors that the
"Pond Depth Map" series has been discontinued (no more
will be printed). As such, certain books are no longer available
(i.e., Southern Somerset County, etc.) and when the others are gone,
they will not be reissued.
