Just north of the shop is Pierce Pond,
considered by many to be one of Maine's finest "Big Water"
native brook trout fisheries. East and West Carry Ponds are also
worth trying when you are in the Pierce Pond area.
Further north, you will
encounter what I feel is the best concentration of "wild"
brook trout ponds found anywhere in the state. Protected by years
of strict regulations, these ponds are consistent producers!
Located
between Route 201 on the west and the Kennebec Gorge on the east lies what are
known as "Cold Stream" and the "10,000 Acre Tract". Both watersheds
contain multiple ponds with better than average fishing.
Try Cold Stream, Lang and Big Berry
ponds as well as Ellis, Round and Horseshoe. Also, there are numerous
other small ponds and streams that receive much less pressure and
can produce a trophy "Brookie" at any time.
Be sure to be here for the "Hex"
hatch starting in late June/early July and running into August.
It is during this time that the largest dry fly caught fish of the
year are taken (we stock over 20 "Hex" patterns)!
