With
a native "Brook Trout" measured in "Pounds"
not "Inches", Labrador is today what Maine was before
over-fishing and under-regulation took its toll. While not all lodges
in Labrador still can boast fishing as good as it was when they
first opened, Little Minipi Camps can! In addition to an "Average"
size of over 4 lbs., many fish over 8 lbs. are taken each year.
Additionally,
there are seasonal "Arctic Char" and all of the 25"+
"Pike" you can catch (if you are so inclined - boredom?)
With two private Lakes (roughly nine and three miles long respectively,
with countless coves and inlets), a mile long "Deadwater",
miles of river, and a productive "Riffle" within a walk
a the camp, Little Minipi has something for everyone.
Primarily
known as a Dry Fly fishery, you can chase "Risers" in
the lakes,
or sit over pods of feeding fish on the river. Plan to be there
in late July/early August for the legendary "Green Drake"
hatch which brings the big boys to the surface! Additionally, "Chugging"
a Mouse or large Muddler across the pools can bring enormous hits!
Now
for the bad news (what little there is
); Labrador is Rugged
country! With summer temperatures that often dip into the low-50's,
more than their fair share of rain, serious "Black Flies"
(Bring lots of Cigars!), and Rustic accommodations, Labrador is
not for everyone. However, if it is "Trophy" Brookies
you are looking for, this is THE place to go!
