When
we started making plans for the shop, we felt that we needed
at least 3 Fly Rod lines; i.e., an "Anchor" line
(a well-known brand name with unquestioned quality, performance
and innovation), an "Affordable" line (a fully warranted
rod that could be enjoyed by the masses), and a "Glamour"
line (a rod with unmatched workmanship and aesthetics).
To
accomplish this, we identified all of the major Fly Rod manufacturers
and divided them into 3 categories (see above). Next we sorted
them by what we felt was "Best" to "Worse"
based on Reputation ("Best in Class"), Company Strength
(are they here for the long haul), and Warranty/Customer Service
(too important to overlook!)
Considering
that Fly Rod distribution is controlled by Manufacturers
Reps whom are responsible for picking the "Right"
opportunities for their respective business partners (it must
be a Win-Win without harming the existing Sales Channels),
we were REAL fortunate to get our first choice in each category
(i.e., Sage, Redington and Winston)!
